Warranty

At Old West Iron, we stand behind the craftsmanship and integrity of our hardware. Every piece is forged, finished, and built with care by skilled hands — and we guarantee the quality of our materials and workmanship.

Product Warranty

If a product or part is found to be defective, Old West Iron will repair or replace it at our discretion. Proof of purchase may be required.

Our warranty does not cover:

  • Labor charges for removal or reinstallation
  • Freight, postage, or handling expenses
  • Damage caused by accident, misuse, abuse, or improper installation
  • Damage resulting from modifications or repairs completed outside of Old West Iron

Any alteration, welding, machining, bending, or repair done by anyone other than Old West Iron voids the warranty.

Finish Warranty

The finishes applied to our ironwork are “living finishes.” This means they will naturally evolve with time, touch, climate, and environment — just as historically forged hardware always has.

Because every home, project, and climate is different, we do not warranty finishes. This includes patinas, clear coats, natural variations, and color changes over time.

Important notes:

  • Our finishes are rust-resistant, not rust-proof
  • Raw, gunmetal, and wrought iron patina finishes may develop surface rust more quickly
  • We recommend reapplying a clear protective coat every 2 years, or more often in coastal or high-humidity climates
  • Natural patinas and hand-applied finishes will vary in color, tone, and texture — this is intentional and part of the old-world look

If you expect a machine-perfect, factory-baked finish, our hand-applied patinas may not meet those expectations.

Marine, Coastal, & High-Moisture Environments

Installations in damp, coastal, lakeside, poolside, or continually wet environments require marine-grade hardware and finishes. Painted or patinated steel — even when sealed — is not suitable for environments with persistent moisture exposure.

Only the following materials are appropriate for long-term performance in these conditions:

  • 316 stainless steel
  • 304 stainless steel (with additional coating)
  • Hot-dip galvanized hardware
  • Powder-coated stainless steel or galvanized steel

Important Note About Powder Coating

Powder coating is not rust-proof. In fact, in coastal California and other salt-rich climates, powder coating can fail faster than painted finishes. If powder coat chips or cracks, moisture becomes trapped beneath the coating and corrosion can spread unseen, sometimes destroying hardware in as little as six months.

Painted finishes, while not rust-proof, allow early surface rust to be identified and maintained before deterioration progresses.

Because of this, powder coating should not be used as a substitute for marine-grade stainless steel in coastal or high-salinity environments. Customers are responsible for selecting the correct grade of hardware for their site conditions.

  • Product recommendations
  • Incorrect product selection
  • Issues resulting from misuse or unsuitable installation conditions

Customers are responsible for ensuring that the hardware selected will work for their intended application.

Workmanship & the Nature of Hand-Forged Iron

Every item we forge is made by hand — heated, hammered, shaped, and finished individually. Because of this, no two pieces will ever be exactly alike.

Expect:

  • Small variations in texture
  • Subtle irregularities
  • Hand-hammered marks
  • Slight differences from piece to piece
  • Natural variation in patina and finish

These characteristics are not defects. They are the hallmark of genuine, old-world craftsmanship — the opposite of mass-produced, machine-perfect parts.

If you are seeking perfectly uniform, factory-machined hardware, our products may not be a good fit. Our goal is to recreate historical ironwork with soul, depth, and authenticity — not to mimic appliance-store finishes.
