Free Standing Pizza Oven Door

Our freestanding pizza oven doors are perfect for the decorative pizza oven application where you would like to be able to completely remove the oven door while you are cooking in the pizza oven. Free standing doors are great for smaller openings, the large the opening the heavier the door, they will require two hands to lift. These freestanding wood fired oven doors are available with wood or metal handles, thermometer, window, and damper; although we recommend not getting a damper on a freestanding door unless you have flue / draft issues and need to cook with the door shut and still have controlled airflow. All regular pizza oven doors are 1/8" thick and all insulated pizza doors are 1" thick.

A free-standing door sits in front of the oven opening rather than being mounted on hinges. It can be placed, removed, or repositioned as needed to control heat, airflow, and cooking temperature.

2. How do these free-standing doors differ from the hinged or built-in versions?
Free-standing designs offer maximum flexibility—perfect for ovens that weren’t built with hardware mounting points. Old West Iron versions are heavier, better insulated, and hand-finished for authenticity, unlike lightweight or mass-cut imports.

3. How do I choose the right size door for my oven opening?
Measure the width and height of your oven mouth and select a door that exceeds those dimensions enough to create a proper seal when leaned against the arch or face. We recommend accounting for any exterior trim or stonework around the opening.

4. What finishes and surface textures are available?
Our free-standing doors come in matte black, natural iron, oil-rubbed bronze, and hand-distressed rustic finishes. Hammered and forged textures are applied in-house to match the historic look of traditional wood-fired ovens.

5. Are your free-standing pizza oven doors hand-forged or hand-built?
Yes. The steel body is precision-cut for fit, while the handles, rivets, heat vents, and textures are hand-worked by our American blacksmiths. Each door reflects true Old World craftsmanship.

6. What are the lead times, and where are these doors made?
Most free-standing pizza oven doors ship within 5-15 business days, depending on size, finish, and features. All decorative and custom-finished doors are made or finished in the USA at our Idaho forge.
