Eye Bolts, Lag Eye Bolts & Hooks – Collection FAQs

1. What are eye bolts, lag eye bolts, and hooks used for?
These fasteners are used for hanging, supporting, or anchoring items in wood, timber, masonry, and structural frames. They’re ideal for gates, pergolas, barn doors, lighting, cable systems, plant hangers, and decorative architectural hardware.

2. How are your eye bolts and hooks different from standard hardware-store versions?
Old West Iron hardware uses thicker steel, deeper threading, and stronger forged or machined eyes for superior load capacity. Decorative and rustic styles offer an authentic old-world look not found in mass-produced imports.

3. How do I choose the right size or type of eye bolt or hook?
Choose the diameter based on load requirements—larger diameters support more weight. For wood-only installations, a lag eye bolt is ideal; for through-bolting, choose a standard eye bolt with a nut and washer. For visible applications, match the scale of the eye or hook to your beam or hardware.

4. How do I install an eye bolt or lag eye screw correctly?
For lag styles, pre-drill a pilot hole and thread the lag eye bolt into the wood until snug. For through-bolted eyes, drill a clean hole and secure with a washer and nut on the opposite side. Ensure the eye or hook is oriented properly before final tightening.

5. What finishes and textures are available?
These fasteners can be ordered in matte black, oil-rubbed bronze, natural iron, and hand-distressed finishes. Many decorative options are individually textured by our blacksmiths to match hinges, bolts, washers, and other Old West Iron hardware.

6. What are the lead times and where are they made?
Most eye bolts, lag bolts, and hooks ship within 1–10 business days depending on finish and size. All decorative and custom-finished hardware is made or finished in the USA at our Idaho forge.
