Hasps & Trunk Latches – Collection FAQs

1. What types of projects typically use hasps and trunk latches?
These pieces are commonly installed on chests, trunks, cabinets, barn doors, shutters, and storage boxes. They provide a simple way to secure lids or doors while adding a vintage, old-world hardware detail.

2. What makes Old West Iron hasps different from the common stamped versions sold in stores?
Our hasps and trunk latches are made from thicker steel, built with stronger joints, and finished by hand for forged authenticity. They offer a level of durability and craftsmanship far beyond thin, mass-produced alternatives.

3. How do I know which size hasp or latch will work best for my application?
Measure the distance between the mounting points on your lid or door and the frame or box front. Choose a hasp long enough for smooth engagement, and ensure the strike plate or staple aligns perfectly with your mounting layout.

4. What finish and texture options can I order these latches in?
They are available in matte black, natural iron, oil-rubbed bronze, and several hand-distressed textures. Our hammered and antique finishes are applied in-house to pair seamlessly with our hinges, knobs, and rustic iron hardware.

5. Are these hasps and latches hand-forged or hand-finished?
The bodies are precision-cut for accuracy, but each piece is hand-worked—edges, textures, and decorative details—by our American blacksmiths. This gives every latch the authentic look and feel of traditional wrought iron.

6. How fast do hasps and trunk latches ship, and where are they made?
Most styles ship within 1–10 business days, depending on size and finish. All decorative and custom-finished hardware is made or finished in the USA at our Idaho forge.
