How It's Made:

Our hex head bolts are built on the foundation of high quality blanks, which ensures that each bolt has the strength to withstand modern applications and a standard size compatible with standard hardware pieces. The blanks are heated in the forge, then one of our skilled blacksmiths hammer, smooth, or distress each one by hand. Once cooled, the bolts are hand-painted, completing the process, with the finish or patina of your choosing.

Hex Head Bolts – Collection FAQs

1. What are hex head bolts commonly used for?
Hex head bolts are versatile structural fasteners used in timber framing, metal-to-wood connections, machinery, restoration projects, furniture building, and any application requiring strong, reliable through-bolting.

2. How do your hex head bolts differ from standard hardware-store bolts?
Our bolts feature higher-quality steel, cleaner threading, tighter tolerances, and more authentic styling options. They’re designed for both structural strength and historic or rustic aesthetics—unlike mass-produced imports.

3. How do I choose the right size bolt for my project?
Choose a bolt long enough to pass fully through your material with extra length for washers and a nut. For decorative or visible applications, match the head size and proportions to the scale of your beam, timber, or furniture piece.

4. What finishes and textures are available?
Hex bolts can be ordered in a variety of finishes including matte black, oil-rubbed bronze, natural iron, hammered textures, or hand-distressed styles. These options allow you to match new hardware with existing vintage or forged ironwork.

5. Are these bolts hand-forged?
The bolt shafts are precision-machined for strength, while many of our decorative or hammered heads are hand-finished by American blacksmiths to replicate period-correct wrought iron textures.

6. What are the lead times and where are your bolts made?
Most hardware ships within 1–10 business days depending on finish and quantity. All decorative and custom-finished bolts are made or finished in the USA at our Idaho forge.
