Escutcheon Plates & Locks – Collection FAQs

1. What are escutcheon plates and what function do they serve?
Escutcheon plates frame and protect the area around keyholes, lock cylinders, and door hardware. They add a finished architectural detail while preventing wear on the door surface.

2. How do your escutcheons and lock plates differ from standard ones sold elsewhere?
Old West Iron plates are cut from thicker steel, feature hand-applied forged textures, and carry the weight and authenticity of traditional ironwork. They far surpass thin stamped imports in both durability and old-world aesthetic.

3. How do I choose the correct size or style of plate for my door?
Start by measuring the existing keyhole, deadbolt, or handle spacing on your door. Select a plate that fully covers the hardware area while staying proportional to the door’s scale. For new builds, choose a style that matches your hinges, pulls, or historic theme.

4. What finish and texture options are available for your plates and lock components?
You can choose from matte black, natural iron, oil-rubbed bronze, and various hand-distressed textures. Hammered, peened, and antique surfaces are applied in-house to coordinate with our straps, hinges, and rustic iron hardware.

5. Are these escutcheon plates and locks hand-forged?
The base profiles are precision-cut for accuracy, while textures, edge details, rivets, and surface finishes are hand-worked by our American blacksmiths to achieve authentic wrought-iron character.

6. What should I expect for shipping times, and where are these products made?
Most escutcheon plates and lock components ship within 1–10 business days, depending on finish and style. All decorative and custom-finished pieces are made or finished in the USA at our Idaho forge.

Our escutcheon plates come in sizes from 1 3/4" x 1 1/8" to 5 1/2" x 3/4" and are available in all of our signature colors. To request a custom size or finish color, please reach out to us at office@oldwestiron.com.
