Door, Cabinet & Window Inserts – Collection FAQs

1. What are iron inserts and where are they typically used?
Iron inserts are decorative metal panels designed to be mounted inside cutouts on doors, cabinets, and windows. They add ventilation, visibility, or purely ornamental detail while enhancing the architectural style of the piece.

2. How do Old West Iron inserts compare to standard decorative panels?
Our inserts are crafted from heavier steel with hand-applied forged textures and traditional joinery details. They offer far greater durability, depth, and authenticity than thin stamped or mass-produced decorative panels.

3. How do I pick the right size insert for my door, cabinet, or window opening?
Measure the height and width of your cutout and choose an insert that fully covers the opening with enough overlap for secure mounting. For new builds, select a design proportionate to the scale of your door or cabinetry.

4. What finishes and surface textures are available for these inserts?
Inserts can be ordered in matte black, natural iron, oil-rubbed bronze, and a range of hand-distressed finishes. Our hammered, peened, and antique textures are applied in-house to match your hinges, pulls, and other iron details.

5. Are these inserts hand-forged or hand-finished by blacksmiths?
Yes. While the panel shapes are precision-cut for clean lines, the bars, rivet accents, edge work, and surface textures are hand-worked by our American blacksmiths—giving each insert true wrought-iron character.

6. What are the lead times, and where are the inserts made?
Most inserts ship within 1–10 business days, depending on size and finish. Every decorative and custom-finished piece is made or finished in the USA at our Idaho forge.
