Ridge Center Plates
Ridge center plates are the structural and decorative iron plates that support the ridge beams to the king strut in the peak of a truss. These iron brackets are available in all our hammered textures and all our finishes. Fasteners are sold seperately. For structural applications with heavy loads we recommend through bolting with 1/2" diameter or larger fasteners. We do not recommend any of our overhead metal plates be installed with clavos.
Ridge Center Plates – Collection FAQs
1. What are ridge center plates used for?
Ridge center plates reinforce the peak joint where rafters or beams meet at the top of a roofline. They provide structural stability for timber-frame roofs, pavilions, pergolas, trusses, and exposed architectural ridge designs.
2. How are your ridge center plates different from standard brackets?
Old West Iron plates are made from thicker steel with clean precision cuts and hand-applied forged textures. Unlike mass-produced brackets, our plates offer real load-bearing strength combined with the authentic, historic styling of traditional blacksmith work.
3. How do I choose the right size ridge center plate?
Measure the beam width and configuration at the ridge joint. Choose a plate large enough to span and reinforce all intersecting members proportionally. Heavy timber structures require wider, thicker plates. Ensure your bolt or screw size matches the pre-drilled holes.
4. What finishes and textures are available?
Ridge center plates come in matte black, natural iron, oil-rubbed bronze, and hand-distressed finishes. Hammered, peened, or antique textures are applied in-house to coordinate with our straps, bolts, washers, and other architectural hardware.
5. Are these ridge plates hand-forged?
The plate bodies are precision-cut for strength and accuracy, while edges, rivet details, and surface textures are hand-worked by our American blacksmiths. This gives each plate a rugged, Old World, wrought-iron appearance.
6. What are the lead times and where are they made?
Most ridge center plates ship within 1–10 business days, depending on size and finish. All decorative and custom-finished plates are made or finished in the USA at our Idaho forge.
