International orders will have the option for shipping DHL, UPS, Fed Ex and USPS this is up to the customer to choose. For a shipping quote please place the items in the cart and begin the checkout process, after adding your address you will be given shipping options with pricing.
Import duties, taxes, and brokerage fees may be charged at delivery. These COD fees are set by your country's customs and are not included in our prices or shipping costs.

  • UPS Ground: 1–6 business days (based on distance from Idaho)
  • USPS Ground Advantage: 2–5 business days
  • International: 1–5+ weeks depending on carrier and customs

USPS Ground Advantage

We offer ground advantage and priority mail via the United States Postal Service. USPS Ground Advantage is our preferred international shipping method and is the recommended method for smaller orders, domestic and international. Although the shipping limit is 70 lbs for flat rate boxes, 50-55 lbs is most practical to make sure the box (and its contents) arrive in good condition. Please use the map provided to view the average transit time frame for your location. Our pick up time is 9am, if you receice a tracking number after this time your package will be picked up the following business day. Please allow 12-24 hours for online tracking to start, we are in a rural area and their scanners do not always send the signal out immediately.

UPS Ground

Because we are in a rural area, UPS picks up from our shop late in the evening. Packages often aren’t unloaded, sorted, or scanned until the following morning. Please allow up to 24 hours for your tracking information to update.

Due to our late pickup schedule, Overnight shipping typically functions as a 2-day service, and 2-Day Air may occasionally take 3 days. This is normal for rural mountain regions. After pickup, UPS trucks return to the regional hub in Rexburg for sorting the next day before heading to the airport or to the next distribution facility, this can delay transit by a day.

Carrier Selection

We reserve the right to choose the most reliable carrier for your shipment. If your address cannot receive packages from USPS or UPS, please note this in your order comments.

If an alternate carrier is required and costs more than our standard rate, the price difference will be billed to the customer.

Address Accuracy

To ensure successful delivery, please provide a valid deliverable shipping address when placing your order.

Old West Iron is not responsible for packages that are undeliverable due to incomplete or incorrect addresses.
The customer is responsible for the additional shipping cost to resend the order to a new or corrected address.

Planning Ahead for Handmade Orders

Because our hardware is hand-forged and often made to order, we encourage customers to plan ahead to allow time for both production and transit. We do not offer rush orders. In our experience, rush requests increase the likelihood of errors, delays, and unexpected issues that can impact quality and timelines.

Weather & Rural Location Delays

Our forge is located in the mountains of Teton Valley, Idaho, where weather can be unpredictable — especially from October through April/May. Severe snow or unsafe road conditions may delay courier pickup or employee travel to the shop. When this occurs, shipments may be delayed by a day or two for safety reasons.

Once Your Order Has Shipped

After an order leaves our shop, delivery timelines are managed by the carrier. While we are happy to help contact the courier on your behalf, we do not have special influence over their transit speeds, investigations, or timelines.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

Many of our products are hand-built to order. Processing times depend on item, finish, and current workload.

  • Standard hardware pieces: Usually ship within the posted lead time
  • Custom items: Lead times vary based on complexity
  • Large forged pieces (e.g., pizza oven doors): May require additional time
  • Handmade items may ship separately if ordered with in-stock items
  • Changing an order after it's placed may affect your timeline
  • Custom orders require communication and approval before production begins

Shipping Damage or Issues

If your package arrives damaged, contact us immediately.
We require clear photos of:

  • The packaging
  • The damaged item
  • The label

This allows us to file an insurance claim and remake the piece if needed. We handle the claim for you so you don’t get stuck with delays or paperwork.

Do you offer expedited or rush shipping?

We do offer expedited shipping options such as USPS Priority, UPS 2-Day Air, and UPS Overnight. However, because we are located in a rural mountain area, UPS Overnight typically functions as a 2-day service, and 2-Day Air may occasionally take 3 days.

Please note:

  • Expedited shipping does not rush production.Handmade items still follow their normal lead times.
  • UPS picks up late in the evening and packages are often not scanned until the following morning, so tracking can take up to 24 hours to update.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes. Orders over $100 within the United States qualify for free shipping.

Tiered flat-rate shipping applies to orders under $100.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We ship worldwide via UPS, USPS, FedEx, and DHL. Shipping options and pricing will appear at checkout after the address is entered.

What happens if my package is returned to you?

If a package is returned due to an invalid, incomplete, or non-deliverable address, the customer is responsible for the additional shipping cost to resend the order.

Providing accurate delivery information ensures timely and safe delivery.

What is the difference between lead time and shipping time?

Lead time is the time it takes us to forge, finish, and prepare your order.

Shipping time is the transit time once the order leaves our shop.

These two are separate. Carrier transit estimates begin only after your order has shipped.

Why does my tracking show no movement for the first 24 hours?

UPS picks up from our rural Idaho location in the late evening. Packages are usually not unloaded or scanned until the next morning, so tracking may take up to 24 hours to update.

USPS rural scanning can also lag by 12–24 hours.

Why does overnight or 2-day shipping take longer from your location?

Due to our rural pickup times, overnight shipping functions like a 2-day service, and 2-day air can take 3 days.

This is normal for mountain regions where carriers route packages through regional hubs the following morning.

What if I cannot receive USPS deliveries?

Please write “UPS shipping only” in the order comments.

If you do not, and USPS cannot deliver to your address, the package may be returned. Reshipping requires payment of the additional shipping cost.
