- Raw: Metal is left untreated. Recommended for those wanting to add their own finish.
- Black: The part is painted flat black. We recommend this option for parts that have no texturing done to them and for outdoor use.
- Oil Rubbed Bronze: A wax containing bronze is rubbed on the piece, leaving a bronze color to the high points of the metal where the lows will be black. Recommended for hammered or distressed textured items.
- Pewter: A wax containing pewter is rubbed on the part, leaving the silver-ish pewter color on the highs points of the metal and the lows will be black. Recommended for hammered of distressed textured items.
- Aged Bronze: A wax containing bronze is applied to the piece and then wiped away. This finish leaves the high points of the metal black and the low points a goldish-bronze color. Recommended for hammered or distressed items.
- Aged Pewter: A wax containing pewter is applied to the piece and then wiped away. This finish leaves the high point of the metal black and the low points a silver-ish pewter color. Recommended for hammered or distressed items.
- Rusty Metal Patina: This finish leaves the reddish, orange color of the rust on the low points of the piece. It looks best when selected with a hammered or distressed texture
- Gunmetal: This is an acid finish leaving hints of blues and browns coming through the part. The coloring soaks into the metal making it more scratch resistant (Good for high use items). Not recommended for outdoor use
- Wrought Iron Patina: This is an acid was finish, the blackish coloring will soak into the metal making it more scratch resistant (Good for high usu items). Not recommended for outdoor use

Square Head Bolts & Washers
I'm in the process of a restoration project of my grandfathers 100 year old pipe vise. These square head bolts are going to make this project looks great. I'm glad I found these bolts. This will really look great when completed. My grandfather would be proud of this completed project. Thank you "Old West Iron"

Great Work!
All of the bolts and hardware received were beautiful. It was gave the rustic table we built exactly what we wanted. Also the service and communication was wonderful.

Bolt head advertised size
The finish and appearance of the hardware was as pictured and exactly what I was expecting. The size of the head of the on the hardware wasn’t. When the heads were stamped to appear old and rusted and then colored it made the size increase by .030 to .050 witch wouldn’t allow an 4 or 8 point socket or open end wrench to be used. I had to go to a 12 point socket which didn’t have a lot of engagement with the flanks of the hardware and tended to damage the power coat or whatever the finish is. I had to install over 150 lags and an adjustable wrench was not going to cut it.

Keith, I'm sorry to hear you had a less than satisfactory experience with our product. Because these heads are hand hammered (not machine stamped), we allow for slight variations in exact size. It is nearly impossible to give exact sizes on hand hammered products such as our lags because one hammer hit can change the measurements slightly. We are transparent about this on our website, you can find this notice at the top of the "Square Head Lag Screws" landing page. Typically the sizes you ordered would fit with 9/16" 8 point and 3/4" 8 point sockets, I'm sorry this was not your experience. For the finish, you can touch up with a Flat Black spray paint, we like Rust-oleum. If there is anything else we can help you with, please don't hesitate to call or email.

So glad we could help! Thank you!

Good match for antique piano
Original square head blots went missing to attach the pedal lyre underneath our pre-civil war 1857 Steinway & Sons square grand piano. Didn't feel right purchasing bolts from Home Depot or Lowes because we wanted to match bolts as close as possible to the original hardware of the time period. We searched all over the country and Old West Iron's bolts were the closest match we could find (almost identical), and we thank you SO MUCH for keeping history alive! Cheers from California.
