Corbels & Large Shelf Brackets
Corbels – Collection FAQs
1. What are corbels used for?
Corbels support shelves, mantels, countertops, bars, and architectural overhangs. They also add decorative structure to beams, kitchen islands, and rustic or Old World interior designs.
2. How are your corbels different from standard home-store brackets?
Old West Iron corbels are built from thicker steel with stronger welds, clean structural lines, and hand-applied textures. Unlike mass-produced brackets, our corbels offer true load-bearing capacity and the authentic forged look of traditional blacksmith work.
3. How do I choose the right size corbel for my project?
Match the corbel’s depth to the depth of your shelf, mantel, or countertop. For heavier installations—like stone or large wood mantels—choose wider or thicker corbels rated for high support. Always install into solid studs or masonry for proper load distribution.
4. What finishes and textures are available?
Corbels come in matte black, natural iron, oil-rubbed bronze, and hand-distressed finishes. Many designs feature hammered or peened textures applied in-house to complement our beams, straps, bolts, and rustic hardware.
5. Are your corbels hand-forged?
Structural elements are precision-cut or welded for strength, while decorative features, edges, and textures are hand-worked by our American blacksmiths. This combination provides both reliable support and authentic Old World character.
6. What are the lead times and where are corbels made?
Most corbels ship within 1–10 business days, depending on size, finish, and customization. All decorative and custom-finished corbels are made or finished in the USA at our Idaho forge.
