Beam Straps
Beam Straps – Collection FAQs
1. What are beam straps used for?
Beam straps reinforce structural beams, conceal joints, wrap beam ends, and add architectural character to timber-frame homes, great rooms, pergolas, pavilions, and exposed beam designs.
2. How are your beam straps different from standard steel brackets?
Old West Iron beam straps are made from thicker steel, cut with precise lines, and hand-finished with hammered or forged-style textures. Unlike thin, mass-produced brackets, our straps offer both structural support and authentic Old World craftsmanship.
3. How do I choose the right beam strap size?
Measure your beam’s width, height, and the span you want to reinforce. Select a strap that fits the beam dimensions snugly and proportionally. For load-bearing applications, choose thicker steel or wider straps, and always match bolt size to the strap’s pre-drilled holes.
4. What finishes and textures are available?
Beam straps come in matte black, natural iron, oil-rubbed bronze, and hand-distressed rustic finishes. Hammered, peened, and antique textures are applied in-house to coordinate with our bolts, washers, and architectural hardware.
5. Are these beam straps hand-forged?
The strap bodies are precision-cut for strength, while textures, edges, rivet details, and finishes are hand-worked by our American blacksmiths. This gives each piece the rugged, historic look of traditional wrought iron.
6. What are the lead times and where are they made?
Most beam straps ship within 1–10 business days, depending on size, finish, and customization. All decorative and custom-finished straps are made or finished in the USA at our Idaho forge.
