L-Straps – Collection FAQs

1. What are L-straps used for in construction and furniture projects?
L-straps reinforce 90-degree corners on beams, shelves, cabinetry, gates, doors, and timber-frame joints. They add both structural strength and a decorative iron accent.

2. How do Old West Iron L-straps differ from the lightweight brackets sold at big-box stores?
Ours are cut from thicker steel, built for long-term durability, and finished with forged-style textures. Unlike thin stamped straps, they offer authentic Old World character and far greater holding power.

3. How can I determine which L-strap size is right for my project?
Measure the length of each corner you need to reinforce and select a strap with legs long enough to cover those surfaces. Larger beams or doors typically require longer or wider straps for proper proportion and support.

4. What finish and texture options are available for your L-straps?
These straps come in matte black, natural iron, oil-rubbed bronze, and several hand-distressed finishes. Hammered, peened, and antique textures are applied in-house to match our fasteners, hinge straps, and rustic iron hardware.

5. Are the L-straps hand-forged or hand-finished?
The strap bodies are precision-cut for accurate dimensions, but each piece is individually hand-textured, edge-worked, and finished by our American blacksmiths to achieve a true wrought-iron look.

6. What is the typical lead time, and where are these straps made?
Most L-straps ship within 1–10 business days, depending on size and finish. All decorative and custom-finished straps are made or finished in the USA at our Idaho forge.
