Installation Information

Our HB 313 Traditional Tuscan Iron Handrail Bracket is crafted for both aesthetic appeal and long-lasting function. It features a solid backplate for mounting to wood or masonry, and a sturdy saddle that supports the handrail with strength and stability.

To install:

  1. Mark Bracket Placement – Determine the height and spacing according to your local code (typically 34"–38" from the nose of the stair tread).

  2. Drill Pilot Holes – Use appropriate drill bits for your mounting surface (wood or masonry).

  3. Secure Brackets – Mount each bracket with heavy-duty screws or decorative lags for a finished look. Ensure they’re level and evenly spaced.

  4. Attach Handrail – Position the handrail over the saddles, then drill and screw down through the holes provided in the saddle into the handrail.

If installing into masonry, be sure to use masonry anchors (not included). For a cleaner and more cohesive look, pair this bracket with our blacksmith-made fasteners and finishes for a fully custom hand-forged rail system.

FAQ

Q: What is the projection and clearance of this bracket?
A: The HB 313 bracket has a projection of approximately 3 ½" from the wall to the center of the handrail, with about 2" of wall clearance beneath the rail—ideal for code-compliant installs in most areas.

Q: Is this bracket compatible with flat-bottom or round handrails?
A: Yes, it works well with both. The saddle is designed to accommodate flat-bottom rails but can be easily adapted for round profiles with a rubber gasket or custom notch.

Q: What finish is shown in the product photo?
A: The main image features our wrought iron patina, a dark, naturally aged look with light brushing to highlight the forged texture. You can choose from several finishes at checkout.

Q: What mounting hardware is included?
A: Standard screws are included, but for best results, we recommend pairing with our square head lag screws or decorative pyramid screws (sold separately) for a historically accurate look.

Q: Can this be used outdoors?
A: Yes, with the correct finish. Choose a weather-resistant finish such as black powder coat or sealed iron patina for outdoor use. Occasional oiling will extend the life of the finish in harsh climates.

Q: How many brackets do I need per rail?
A: We recommend one bracket every 4 feet and one at each end for proper support and compliance with most building codes.
