Push Plates – Collection FAQs

1. What are push plates used for?
Push plates protect doors from wear and fingerprints in high-touch areas. They are commonly used on swinging doors, pantry doors, commercial entries, and interior doors where hands frequently push the surface open.

2. How are your push plates different from standard hardware-store plates?
Old West Iron push plates are made from thicker steel with hand-forged or hand-textured details. Unlike thin stamped plates, ours offer authentic weight, durability, and Old World character that complements rustic and historic interiors.

3. How do I choose the right size push plate?
Choose based on your door’s width and the height of the push area. Taller plates provide more coverage on high-traffic doors, while smaller plates suit interior or decorative applications. Always check mounting hole placement if you’re matching existing hardware.

4. Are finishes and textures available?
Push plates come in matte black, natural iron, oil-rubbed bronze, and hand-distressed rustic finishes. Many include hammered, peened, or antique textures applied in-house to pair seamlessly with our handles, knobs, and door hardware collections.

5. Are your push plates hand-forged?
The base plates are precision-cut for clean edges, while textures, hammered surfaces, and finishes are hand-applied by our American blacksmiths. This creates a true wrought-iron appearance with distinctive, handcrafted character.

6. What are the lead times and where are the push plates made?
Most push plates ship within 1–10 business days, depending on finish and size. All decorative and custom-finished hardware is made or finished in the USA at our Idaho forge.
