Is the Tuscan Iron Slide latch coated to help prevent rust?
Would you recommend against screwing the slide plate to the narrow 1.5 inch side of a 2x4 or is there enough material on the board to hold the latch?

It would depend on what finish you choose. All of our finishes are rust prevented other than our natural rust, gun metal, wrought iron, or raw. There would be enough material yes.
