Our Old-Fashion rustic square head lag screws add a traditional old world look to all your projects. Our head textures and patina finish options give the look of a true old lag that has been recycled, perfect to pair with reclaimed lumber.

- Raw: Metal is left untreated. Recommended for those wanting to add their own finish.
- Black: The part is painted flat black. We recommend this option for parts that have no texturing done to them and for outdoor use.
- Oil Rubbed Bronze: A wax containing bronze is rubbed on the piece, leaving a bronze color to the high points of the metal where the lows will be black. Recommended for hammered or distressed textured items.
- Pewter: A wax containing pewter is rubbed on the part, leaving the silver-ish pewter color on the highs points of the metal and the lows will be black. Recommended for hammered of distressed textured items.
- Aged Bronze: A wax containing bronze is applied to the piece and then wiped away. This finish leaves the high points of the metal black and the low points a goldish-bronze color. Recommended for hammered or distressed items.
- Aged Pewter: A wax containing pewter is applied to the piece and then wiped away. This finish leaves the high point of the metal black and the low points a silver-ish pewter color. Recommended for hammered or distressed items.
- Rusty Metal Patina: This finish leaves the reddish, orange color of the rust on the low points of the piece. It looks best when selected with a hammered or distressed texture
- Gunmetal: This is an acid finish leaving hints of blues and browns coming through the part. The coloring soaks into the metal making it more scratch resistant (Good for high use items).Not recommended for outdoor use
- Wrought Iron Patina: This is an acid was finish, the blackish coloring will soak into the metal making it more scratch resistant (Good for high usu items). Not recommended for outdoor use

I have built numerous historical (replicas) wood project for many years using traditional wood working tools and was always on the lookout for affordable square headed bolts and lags. Old West has them at affordable prices and almost limitless size selections. They are exactly the same as the originals manufactured up to WW ll. Purchased some 5/8” square headed bolts. They took a long time to get to me, which leads me to believe they’re either making them to order, or purchasing from other. Regardless, the quality was good and I didn’t need them right away anyway. Would purchase again.

First, this company was great to work with. They were responsive and my mistake in ordering confirmed they are extremely fair with their return policy. Second, it is worth noting this is one of only a very few companies that offer really nice architectural hardware with a customization approach. I searched the interweb a considerable amount of time. Be aware of the scheduling for customized items and make your plans early. They provide a flow sheet for timing from order to delivery so use it. Old West Iron will be my go to on my contacts list for any future custom hardware. I highly recommend you visit their website and click around on all they have to offer.

From initial call to end product - team was fantastic. I called - not truly knowing what I wanted, and, they coached me through it on the phone. Offered ideas and alternatives. Worked to cut a custom size. Called back same day and next day just to ensure alignment. I am in Southeast PA, and we don't have groups near that have the authenticity of these products (at least that I was able to find). Highly recommended group to work with.

Can order just one of a couple different colors? I will be ordering 600 total 3/8 x 3” but I can’t tell if ordering the unfinished and doing my Own wax treatment would be better than one of your colors. Pewter, aged pewter, gunmetal and rusty metal are the colors I would like to order a sample of and get coming right away

Sorry, novice here. Do you screw these in with a wrench and to keep from scratching the bolt, would you put a thin piece of cloth between the wrench head and the bolt to prevent scratching?

Hello! So we usually recommend to predrill then screw them in by hand but if the socket is the exact size it can be done without scratching the head. Otherwise if you prefer using the drill with a larger socket and a piece of cloth between the two that would definitely help!
