Q:
1. Confirming this is a surface mount, not a lag through the door mounting. (We do -not- want to drill completely through the door to secure from the inside) 2. The ring size is listed, what are the dimensions of the base plate back? 3. Roughly what is the weight of the ring-knocker? (We need a loud solid knock sound to reach the far side of the house) Thank you.

Hi Don, yes these are surface mounted using small decorative screws that install from the face of the door knocker plate (they will not go through the whole door.) We do suggest drilling small pilot holes to prevent the wood from splitting. The backplate is roughly 6 3/8"x7 3/8"
The weight of the ring and plate is about 3.2 lbs.It does give a solid knock since it is striking the metal backplate rather than wood.
